Here's another one of my older builds. The story behind this '32 Roadster goes back to 2009. Back then as a kid I used to do a lot of model building together with a friend of mine. We often spent a night at each others' place and built models together. That was always a great fun. While I was shooting for accuracy on my builds and I tried to make my builds as clean as possible, my friend was more into Rat Rods and he was shooting for the right attitude instead of dead on accuracy. So he kept telling me that I should build something similar than what he is doing, but I wasn't that much into Rat Rods so it took me a couple of years before this project started...
The starting point for this build was an old builtup that I got from that same friend. It was rough and missing lots of parts, so it was a perfect starting point for Rat Rod. And the plan was to achieve the right attitude, instead of adding all minor details and making it that accurate. The body was pretty rough, so after a lot of sanding and smoothing (and adding a missing trunk lid from my parts box) the body was shot with primer. Then some flat black and a bit of rust spots here and there... Oh and I almost forgot, I sectioned the body a little as well.
The frame was scratchbuilt from plastic rod and I used a Flathead for power. At the same time I sectioned the grille shell and grille. Front axle was scratchbuilt as well, and pretty much everything else was taken from my parts boxes. Driveshaft tunnel had to be modified to work with the lowered ride height and windshield frame and firewall were scratchbuilt as well.
Overall it was a very fun project and while I didn't go crazy with details or accuracy, it came together pretty fast, if I remember correctly it took me about four months from start to finish. And when it was done, my friend approved it, which was of course great news. It's something that I normally wouldn't build, but considering how much fun it was, I might do another one at some point, if I can find a starting point that is bad enough.
Here are two shots of the body in its' early stages.
And here's the finsihed product.
I never added much chassis detail for this, as I wasn't going to present the chassis to anyone. But, this is the only view of the scratchbuilt frame.
