:-Xa bit insulted no fenders, no hood, mismatched parts from various vehicles, chopped, channeled, and no boyd coddington-esque street queen glossy paint job.....function over beauty........if i'm not mistaken, isn't that the definition of a rat rod? " an insult to hot rodding" is exactly what a rat should be!! my car pictured below is a hot rod, the car i'm building now is a rat. sorry if this seems a little defensive, but I will call it what it is, a rat, YOU call it whatever YOU want.  |

somoene getting a little hot under the collar? hey don't sweat it man, i was just stating what i think. you are right a rat rod would be an insult to hot rodding.....if you are building it as a rat rod, then all the power to you. i retract my statements as i meant no harm. i am just used to seeing a lot of people label an "in progress rod" a RAT....when in fact there is a lot of hot rods out there which are in primer, rusty and bare metal. it's the poor man's way to build and drive his hot rod. i am a poor man. here is what i built and i don't want to take over your thread ok? no disrespect. i built this and every person that saw it said "sweet rat rod"......ARGHHHHH it's HOT ROD! * in progress, built in someone's back yard.   Hosted on Fotkikeep up the good work, no matter what you are calling it , i like it! |

I don't want to turn this thread into a discussion, but, I stopped using the term even tho I love building in this style. I thought of 'Rat Rod' as a badge of distinction. something bad to the bone. Much like the famous 'Rat' engine.
However, the overuse of the term, and it becoming a fad, where any pekkerhead that primered something and had red rims claimed 'rathood', and Foose building a $60 grand one, it just ruined the whole concept.
In my mind, I think 'rat rod' when I see one that fits the bill, and 'poser' when I see one that doesn't

Nice build of this hotratrod  I`m always confused when its come to point if its a Rat or a a Hotrod  I don't now what I`m building at the moment but I think I a named it a hot dog .... safest way  Ron |
