Here's another older build of mine. In 2012 I saw "Gumball Rally" Community Build on MCM forum. I've always liked those Gumball or Cannonball Rally movies so I thought I'd jump in. A bit earlier I had bought a quite big lot of old builtups and glue bombs, so as a starting point I picked up this famous Monogram '69 Camaro that has bunch of errors as far as the body shapes go. But as it looked pretty sad just sitting in there, I decided I had to give it a new life...
The glue bomb had most of the parts, but especially the body and chassis were in a bad condition. Some small bits and pieces of the body were missing and the body was very brittle because someone had used too strong liquids to remove paint from it. So after fixing several cracks and a lot of bodywork and smoothing the body finally started to look decent. My plan was to paint the exterior black with no chrome or anything, so that the car wouldn't be so easily recognizable in the night while racing in that illegal Rally. So I painted the body gloss black (My first and so far the only gloss black paint job). Body was then clear coated and polished...
For the engine I wanted a 302 SBC with a Cross Ram intake setup. I can't remember if the engine came with the kit or not, but it was completed with some basic detailing like spark plug wires, throttle linkages and fuel lines.
Interior was painted red. Only additions were different front seats, scratchbuilt shifter and seatbelts. Chassis was done also with minimal detailing as I wanted to finish this thing before the deadline.
During the final assembly all body details were painted flat black, the only thing that I didn't paint black on the exterior was those rear tire textes and Z28 logo on the grille... Let's say that it turned out decent, it was never my best work but the starting point wasn't the best either... I could do a lot better nowadays, but if I build another 1st Gen Camaro, I'm going to start with something else than this Monogram kit...
Here are a couple of WIP pictures and then some pics of the finished product...
