I'm still waiting for the Alcad Chrome my LHS ordered for me (it should be here tomorrow) so in the mean time I decided to play with the decals . I scanned the actual decals on the body and used an editing program to rework them . First I deleted the faded white lettering and design and replaced it with a new "Bright" White . Then I deleted the background and replaced it with the blue from the scanned plastic . Now I can reduce it using a Vector program so it doesn't loose any detail and print them on white decal paper . When I apply them on the body I'll trim them as close as I can and hopefully the blue will match the body . The only other issue is that white decal paper isn't opaque and the body color will still show through . . . I've got an idea that should work to fix that (instead of putting double decals on) .

Jim , have you actually bought and tried a set of decals from Nikki ? I've also heard that they are actually very nice and the problems of old have been corrected . The price is right so I'll probably order a set in the future , right now I'm having fun making my own !

Hi Bob, Yes ,I have bought several sets. And plan to buy many more. I haven't actually used them on a full project yet. But I have cut off certain ones I wasn't going to use and tested them. They didn't dissolve (fall apart) in the water, they adhered, the colors held true. I've heard good results from others that have used them also. Nikki is very nice to deal with, she acted very professional, in responding to questions and a good turn around time. I believe the biggest thing, is that materials have improved since her father ran the business.
You have been doing a great job on your decals, I just mentioned this to you as a second resort, and for fellow modelers that read this that don't make their own decals, (yet). As a matter of fact, I don't know if anyone has requested any of the "Cartoon Contest" ones you did on your "Pace Car" yet, but if you do make some for the general public, put me down for a set. I know I'd love to put some on my project. (HaHa)

I finally got some Alcad sprayed on the parts . I tried a blue base coat just to see how it affected the chrome , and I haven't decided if I like it or not . Instead of the Alcad having a metallic reflection from the black base it looks more like the chrome is too thin in places ! I'm going to press on and assemble it like it is . The engine is assembled with only the stock parts and a little paint . . . That's all for now as I have to pack it up until after the 25th . Merry Christmas everyone !

That was a great find for sure! I can't wait to see how it turns out as the T-Ford that you built was really cool. Great job so far, keep the pictures coming. Really good work with Alclad.

This is looking good Bob, Do you have a new release? I was wondering how close the plastic color is to an original. I know they were originally in two different blues depending on which (earlier) release it was. What were some of the things you learned?

Thanks Bob, Ouch! That Blue is not even close. The new one is a nice color. but I knew it was wrong. Who knows why the factory doesn't get them closer, all I can figure is, it is hard enough to color match paint, so it's probably harder to match plastic pigments. They probably didn't have or keep color formulas. Plus remember they are actually "Revell" now, so they may not have carried over all the info.
Since you have one in hand, do you have any recommendations on a color, ie: what would you use if you had to paint one?
Yes, I got three new releases. I might keep one in the molded plastic, just to start a "new" traditional look. I'm, gonna rob the tires and wheels from one to replicate an old Woody release. And save the rest of the parts to replicate a "Boss A Bone" if I can find the right rims and exhaust.
Thanks Your Friend Jim

Thanks Your Friend Jim I tend to use Tamiya paints when I can so I've been looking at their paint charts and found a couple I'm going to check out next time I'm at the Hobby Shop . In their acrylics the Mach Blue and Medium Blue both look good and in a rattle can the TS-44 Brilliant Blue looks pretty close . If it is I'm going to pick up a can , I really like the Tamiya spray paints .
