 My 1st Resin Cast
« Thread Started on Sept 18, 2009, 2:30pm »

Didn't know exactly where to put this and thought this might be the right place.

I finally made my first cast. It is a Grumpy's '70 1/2 Camaro hood. I am pretty well pleased with the outcome since it's got all the detail and it came out nice and straight. The only thing I don't care for is the color of the resin but I can get white if I really want to. Here's a few pics of the original(which was used) and the one I made and the mold itself.

Not bad.
Casting is fun.
If the humidity wasn't so bad here in Florida, I'd do more myself.

I'll probably make a couple more different hood molds but don't know exactly which ones.

The molding rubber is sort of expensive unless of course you're going to cast a lot of the same part. From a one pound container that cost about $25, you can make about 2 molds of regular sized hoods unless you really skimped and made the mold thin, maybe 3 molds.

I'll see what I can do about a video that I got from someone else on how to make one. That's the one I followed and it worked out great. If he gives me permission to post it, I'll do it.

Here is a video of how to make a mold and resin cast of a hood. It's in SWF format and about 25MB in size.

This video was made by Bandit and he has given his permission for me to post it. Oh, there is no sound in this video.

If people are having problems viewing this format, let me know and I'll see if
I can convert it over to a different format.

I have a newer computer system, and all it done was sit there searching for about 8 minutes. It would be better if it was in a windows movie maker format IMHO. I am sure there are other formats that would work also. Thank you for trying.
